Once thought extinct for millions of years, the Wollemi pine was rediscovered in 1994. This ancient tree remains one of the world’s rarest and most remarkable plant species.

At the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre, you can strap on a pair of virtual reality (VR) goggles and be transported to the dramatic Wollemi wilderness. The 20-minute VR sessions are a unique opportunity to see this botanical treasure in its natural environment.

Along the way, guided interpretation brings together the pine’s discovery, its ancient Gondwanan origins and the ongoing conservation work helping protect it for the future.

Set within the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains landscape, this accessible experience is a way for families, students and nature lovers to connect with one of Australia’s most extraordinary natural stories.
