NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from 6 August 2026  to 28 February 2027. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.
The program will take place in Moonee Beach Nature Reserve and Bongil Bongil  National Park.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Remote areas of park closed for aerial shooting for feral animal control

Western sections of Yuraygir National Park and Yuraygir State Conservation Area are closed from 6am, Monday 24 August to 6pm, Friday 28 August 2026 for aerial shooting for feral animal control.

 

This program aims to reduce the significant impact pest animals have on native plants and animals, including threatened species.

Closed areas will be sign posted at primary management trail entrances.

 

All coastal visitor facilities including camp grounds, day use areas and walking tracks will remain open.

Sections of Yuraygir National Park will experience periodic closures between 11thAugust and 11th September 2026 for aerial drone spraying operations on Angourie Back beach.

The area to be treated has bitou infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. Bitou will be targeted along the cliff line along Angourie Backbeach. This program is part of a systematic weed control program throughout Yuraygir National Park. Bitou bush will be sprayed by drone with the herbicide Metsulfuron methyl 600g/kg.

The operations are weather dependent. Sections of the Yuraygir Coastal Walk and Angourie Backbeach will be closed for short periods. Neither Angourie or Mara Creek Day Use areas will be closed.

Closed areas: Bindarray Picnic Area Closed for works

Bindarray Picnic Area is closed to the public from Monday 6 July to Monday 3rd August due to construction works.

There will be no access possible via vehicle or pedestrians during this time.

 

The closed area is from the gate at the northern end of Jersery Bull Rd (near junction with Pine Rd) and south to Bindarray Picnic Area.

There is no change to any access to Pine Rd.

 

Construction of a new pedestrian suspension bridge across the Urumbilium River near Bindarray Picnic Area will provide improved access to the site once works are completed.

This project is part of the Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk, which will provide a new public walking track from Dorrigo Rainforest Centre to Bindarray Picnic Area.

The area to be treated has bitou infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. Bitou will be targeted along the cliff line around the Sandon Village south to Illaroo beach and on rocky ledges from Illaroo Camping Area (Flat rock) south to Rocky Point. This program is part of a systematic weed control program throughout Yuraygir National Park. Bitou bush will be sprayed by drone with the herbicide Metsulfuron methyl.

The operations are weather dependent. The site will be closed for a period of up to 4 hours. This work will not affect the camping areas.

Lantana will be sprayed by drone with the herbicide Glyphosate biactive. The area to be treated has dense lantana infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. This program is part of a systematic weed control program throughout Yuraygir National Park.

The operations are weather dependent and take only 1 day to complete in favourable weather conditions. The site will be closed for a period of up to 4 hours.

There is a temporary detour to access the Wonga walk. This access track is a 2-minute walk from the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, along Lyrebird Lane.

The temporary access track is surfaced with non-slip rubber mat. Please note that the track is steep and uneven in sections, making it unsuitable for prams, wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

Closed areas: Urumbilum Falls timber bridge closed - Bindarri NP

The timber bridge which provides access from Urumbilum Falls Carpark east across Urumbilum Creek to the Urumbilum Falls Day Use Area is closed.

 

This closure is necessary due to the surface fill on this elevated timber bridge eroding, causing it to be unsafe for walkers. 

 

For alternate access, options are to use the shallow road ford adjacent (only in times of low water flow), or alternatively consider the flagged walking track to access Urumbilum Falls. 

 

NPWS will be rerouting and improving the walking track access to Urumbilum Falls as part of the Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk over the next two years. This project is already planned and funded, with on-ground work underway in other sectors.

Lyrebird Link track closed. Temporary access to walks via a steep detour.

The Lyrebird Link ramp to the walking tracks from the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre has been closed to address safety risks. Temporary access to the walks via a short steep detour (18 degrees or 1 in 3) is unsuitable for mobility impaired visitors and prams. This will be the only available walk access until the Glade reopens. Please ask at the information counter for advice and directions.

Moonee Creek (Sugar Mill Creek) Bridge is closed as the bridge was removed due to damage. A new bridge will be built in its place, please see below link for details. 

The bridge crossing provides access:

  • to Reflections Holiday Park
  • from Moonee south to Coffs Coast Regional Park, Green Bluff and Sapphire North.

If you are planning to do the Solitary Islands coastal walk please reroute:

  • west along Moonee Beach Road to the south-west corner of the shopping centre
  • south along new concrete path on eastern side of Pacific Highway
  • south onto southern end of North Solitary Drive
  • east onto North Sapphire Road to the beach access at Beachstone Cafe.

Green Bluff is still accessible from the south via Rutile trail, off Ivory Circuit in North Sapphire.
