Join up

You can join the Friends of Tomaree National Park bush care group as a regular volunteer or for casual gardening days in the park. Your team will be weeding and occasionally planting to improve the resilience of the park’s ecosystem and preserve its natural beauty.

You’ll focus on eradicating invasive species such as bitou bush, lantana and ground asparagus. There are also occasional planting days to support threatened species like the villous mint-bush and surveys of orchids that grow throughout the park.

You can work across 4 locations, from the northern tip to the southern reaches of Tomaree National Park. Each month, there are 8 or 9 bush regeneration sessions to choose from, and you’re welcome to join multiple times and locations.

You need to be moderately fit to manage this physical work, but you don’t need to be an expert gardener. Basic training and gardening tools will be provided. Be sure to bring drinking water, sunscreen and snacks. Wear enclosed shoes, a broad-brimmed hat and weather-appropriate clothes.
