Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed
Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.
Katoomba and Leura
- Federal Pass is closed between the bottom of Furber stairs and Scenic World Valley Stations from Wed 29 July for bridge replacement. This means there is no access to Scenic World Valley Stations from the east which includes Furber Steps, Giant Stairs, Fern Bower, Leura Forest or Amphitheatre Tracks. However, visitors can exit out Furber Steps to Cliff Drive from the east. It also means there is no access from Furber Steps to the west i.e. to Narrowneck, Golden Stairs, Ruined Castle, Mt Solitary or from Malatia Wall & Point Abseil Routes.
- Fern Bower walk is closed for track repairs between the junction of Amphitheatre track and Leura Forest until 30 October 2026.
- The northern access of Leura Cascades Track is closed to due to Council upgrades. Visitors should detour via Prince Henry Cliff Walk to access. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
- Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs).
- Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. There is no vehicle access to Golden Stairs trackhead. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
- Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
- Six Foot track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve. Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (including the Caves Visitor Precinct) is closed until 31 December 2026. There is no access to the entire reserve during this time.
- Mt Hay Road will be closed from 9 June to 17 December 2026 for fire trail upgrades. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access during this time.
- No access to Fortress Ridge/Canyon, Butterbox track, Mount Hay Summit track and Lockleys Pylon walking track from 9 June to 17 December to allow for upgrade works along Mt Hay.
- There is no access to Fortress or Butterbox canyon from 9 June until 17 December to allow for upgrade works along Mt Hay Road.
Wentworth Falls and Woodford
- Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
- Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes.
- Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
- Murphy's Glen Campground, Bedford Road and Murphy's Road will be closed for maintenance from 10 Aug 2026.
- From 10 Aug Ingar Campground users must walk from Bedford Rd gate if accessing from Woodford, due to roadworks. This is an extra 2.3km walk.
- Fletchers lookout is closed for maintenance until Friday 28 August 2026.
- Lincolns Rock is closed. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
- Winbourne fire trail (L6) in Woodford will be closed for maintenance until Friday 7 August.
- Lawson Ridge fire trail will be closed for road maintenance from 10 June to 7 August 2026. Open to walkers and cyclists on weekends.
Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road
- Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
- Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.
Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing
Juggler (aka Point Pilcher) Canyon exit has been affected by a recent rockfall event. Canyoners should use caution and exit around the impact site.
Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

Closed areas: End of Bradleys Head Wharf closed
Access restrictions are in place at Bradleys Head Wharf for public safety.
Engineering inspections have identified significant deterioration of the structure, including movement and deterioration of sandstone blockwork, voiding and scour beneath parts of the jetty.
NPWS has completed emergency stabilisation works to reduce the immediate risk of further deterioration or collapse. These works did not restore the wharf to a condition suitable for unrestricted public access.
Bradleys Head Wharf is a heritage structure. Assessment of the wharf requires consideration of:
- Public safety
- Heritage values
- Visitor access and use
- Environmental considerations
- Coastal and marine processes
- Long-term sustainability and maintenance requirements.

Closed areas: Closure of Unauthorised Trail — East Heathcote to Waterfall
An unauthorised trail located between East Heathcote and Waterfall has now been formally and physically closed. Closure works have been completed, including signage and brush matting of the trail surface to encourage natural bush regeneration and clearly signal that the trail is no longer open to access. Access to this trail (located directly adjacent to the Eastern side of the rail corridor between East Heathcote and Waterfall) is not permitted. Please obey all closure signage. Safety alerts: Areas Closed - Deer Control Program
Some areas in Royal National Park, Heathcote National Park and Garawarra State Conservation Area are closed to the public between sunset and sunrise from Monday to Thursday (excluding school holidays) from Monday 6 July 2026 to Friday 18 December 2026 to enable deer control operations to be carried out.
The closed areas include:
- Trails and all Picnic Flats in the Audley Precinct
- Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote
- Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
- North Era campground and coastal areas between Garie Beach and Figure 8 Pools
- Garawarra Farm

- Bonnie Vale campground and Bonnie Vale picnic area.

This park is closed due to Phytophthora contamination, unless the closure is otherwise extended or removed.
To prevent phytophthora infection and spreading in parks and at home, try these hygiene tips:
- Start your trip with clean, dirt-free, dry gear (including shoes, bike tyres, camping gear, vehicles)
- Use the boot wash or scrub stations provided – these capture contaminated water or control flow to septic or sewage systems where root rot will die
- Stay on formed tracks
- Follow instructions on signage
- Clean your gear again when you get home – try a solution of 70% methylated spirits or ethanol, 30% water, and wash straight into the septic/sewage system. You may want to keep a spray bottle in the car.

The Bay and Timber Getters Walking Tracks are currently in a poor condition.
Visitors should expect uneven surfaces and slip, trip and fall hazards along sections of the track.
If walking the track, exercise caution, wear suitable footwear and take extra care on steep, uneven or slippery sections.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is undertaking an assessment of the track and considering future maintenance and improvement works.

The section of Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance, is permanently closed as the old track passes through private property near Killarney Point.
Please note:
- Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
- Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

Standard work hours during the construction phase will be between:

Prospect Nature Reserve is closed to the public indefinitely as it's part of a Special Water catchment area. There is no public access at any time.
If you wish to visit the Prospect Reservoir area, Andrew Campbell Reserve on William Lawson Drive has picnic tables, playground and toilet facilities.

Safety alerts: Swimming safety in Berowra Valley National Park
Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.
Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.

Some parts of North Head in Sydney Harbour National Park are closed due to fire damage and geological instability. The closed areas include:
- Bluefish Point
- Old Man's Hat
- Cannae Point
- Quarantine Head
- Wastewater Treatment Plant emergency access road

Safety alerts: Remote walking track conditions
Remote routes within the Kanangra Wilderness Area including Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail have been impacted by heavy fire regrowth and flood damage.
In some places, tracks are no longer visible and are not easy to navigate, taking longer to traverse than expected. Limited to zero water sources are currently available along routes.
If you plan to walk in the area, please ensure you have an appropriate level of experience, navigation skills and equipment including Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).
Mobile reception is limited so alternative communication methods are strongly recommended.

Safety alerts: Landslide on Auxillary trail- Heathcote National Park
A landslip occurred on an auxillary trail (near Dingo tunnel) off Lower pipeline fire trail in April 2024. Pedestrians and Cyclists are not permitted to pass the landslip.
Authorised Vehicles are not permitted to drive the auxillary trial until further notice.
There are no walking tracks or visitors facilities in this area.
