Visit NSW national parks with an electric vehicle (EV)

Most NSW national parks cannot easily be reached by public transport so most of our visitors drive to parks or reserves. It’s important that electric vehicle (EV) drivers can access NSW national parks and reserves with the same ease as other vehicles.

Under the government’s NSW EV Strategy the EV charging infrastructure is rapidly being installed across NSW cities and regions. As the number of electric vehicles increases, we’ll ensure EV drivers can plan to visit our parks with confidence.

Most of our 890+ parks are already within 50km of a public charger, and the installation of EV infrastructure within parks will only be considered in certain circumstances. The government is also working to address EV charging infrastructure gaps across regional and remote parts of the state including parts of remote north-west NSW.

Check the Transport for NSW EV charging map to find public EV chargers across NSW or go to Visit NSW to plan your next EV friendly road trip. You might also use one of the many apps like PlugShare which include charger locations, type, price, and relevant site access information.

Always plan to charge your EV using a designated charging station. Travel with a Type 2 cable, or adapter if your vehicle is not fitted with a CCS Type 2 port. General power supplies at campgrounds or remote locations are not suitable for EV charging. Standard power outlets in national parks, including powered campsites, are not designed or rated for the load required by EVs. For safety and reliability please don't charge your EV from standard power points at national parks sites.
