Set right on the banks of the Darling River, Hamilton Park Homestead connects you to the culture and history of Gundabooka State Conservation Area. A landscape of rich red earth and towering river red gums is shaped by both Ngemba (the stone country people) and Barkandji (the river people), and generations of pastoral life. Once part of the historic Yanda property, this area near Bourke has strong cultural connection and community meaning.
The homestead is an impressive Edwardian-style building, moved from Bourke in 1918–19 and carefully updated over time. Built in stages using recycled materials, it reflects creativity and hard work – both hallmarks of the Cock family who managed the property for most of the 20th century. The home was the social heart of Yanda, hosting gatherings that celebrated outback life along the Darling.
Today, its grand roofline, wide gauzed verandas, central breezeway and decorative details make it one of the most striking pastoral homes in the region. Inside, you’ll find beautiful timber joinery, coloured glass windows, Australian motifs in the leadlight doors and a large kitchen made for shared meals.
Hamilton Park is ideal for group getaways, families and small events. The lawns are perfect for garden parties, high teas, weddings, art exhibitions or book launches. It also suits school groups and families keen to explore western New South Wales, using the homestead as a comfortable base.
Spring brings flowering emu bush, paper daisies and mulla mulla; autumn delivers golden tones and crisp mornings. From here, explore Gundabooka National Park, Toorale National Park across the river, or follow the Darling River Run.
